September truly feels like the end of the year to me. It just goes so fast from here, we’ll be in the middle of holiday shenanigans before we can even wrap our minds around the upcoming rapture rumors. Tomorrow, supposedly! I, for one, can’t wait. But just in case it doesn’t happen, I haven’t prepared at all.
In all seriousness, I’m not the type to make fun of people’s religious beliefs. As someone who was fully and deeply entrenched in Mormon culture for my entire youth, I get why people need something to believe in. But… like… y’all. Come on. Good luck out there, I guess.
This month has proven to be a mix of really great and really challenging. In turn, my coping mechanisms have been all over the place. I spent enough time doomscrolling that I had to physically go put my phone in another room away from my body. And that allowed me to dive into some puzzles and read a little bit and catch up on shows. And yes, even my old go-to — some shopping. I haven’t bought my 5th item yet, but I will say my senses are on high alert to find something to scratch this itch. Since I don’t really have anything specific on my hunt list, I decided to try a couple of those style boxes! I took some style quizzes (which your girl lives for anyway) and let someone else do the choosing for me! I tried on the outfits for Instagram, but ICYMI, I’ll post them here as well.
I also created a section to my online closet that has shoppable links, so everything I could link, I did so HERE. If you purchase anything, I will make about 10 cents at no extra charge to you, so have at it!
The first box came from StitchFix, which is a household name by now. I’m not sure why I never tried it sooner. Most likely my control issues. I know what I like, so why on earth would I let someone else pick for me? But I have to tell you, it was really fun. I got a little box full of surprises and who doesn’t like that! Even though the fit was off on a few things, they got my style down pretty well. And I just enjoyed the process overall. The only thing I didn’t like was that you only have 3 days to decide what you’re keeping. So I felt a little rushed. I generally live by the rule, if it’s not a hell yes, then it’s a no. But the problem for me is the excitement of everything is a hell yes at first. So I need time to calm down and weigh my options to make good choices. Here’s what they sent for me.

The jeans were a hit. I really liked them. But they felt a tinge too big and a lot of people told me they stretch with wear. The tops were also a success for the most part. The green sweater was the thing I was most excited for, but it ended up being made of synthetic fabrics and gave me hot heebies. I was overall really pleased with the looks my stylist chose. Even the shoes were really soft-soled and comfy.
The next box was from Wantable. I hadn’t heard of them before, but once I ordered from StitchFix, I got ads for every styling box under the sun. I still have another one coming from The Daily Look as well as a Nuuly rental box, so I’ll keep you posted! With Wantable, you get 5 days to decide. Which was more my speed. I didn’t even open the thing until day 4 because we had such a busy week! But the styling wasn’t nearly as successful. Well, I can’t entirely say that. It was really just the pants they sent were the most awful things I’d ever put on. I guess I didn’t even take pictures because they were so bad. But here’s the rest (with the jeans from StitchFix).

Most of the things, I really wanted to like, you know what I’m saying? My husband said the hat was giving “Sherlock Ho”. Which made me laugh so hard. But that first Henley top was so soft and cozy, just too hot for our weather. The striped orange top was cute, but was $45 for Old Navy quality. The brown sweater was a beauty, but just not comfortable. The plaid shirt was stretchy and hot AF. The dress was adorable and I actually loved it, but I know I would never wear it. And the cardigan was giving Mormon relief society leader. So yeah, not a hit for me. But again, a very enjoyable experience to get a box of surprises!
I have barely worn all the clothes that I already own this year, but in true-to-me fashion, I’m sick of everything. So more experiments to come. It’s helping me to feel like I’m bending the rules of my 5-item challenge without actually breaking them. And I like it.

Thanks for sharing! I have considered stitch fix in the past but I just like shopping too much! Also thanks for sharing something online that helps me get my mind off how the world is crumbling around us…my anxiety is through the roof but seeing your outfits and thoughts is calming!😊
Sherlock Ho??! 😂😂😂😂
